Alberta iGaming market kicks off with 50+ operators

Alberta officially launched its regulated iGaming market 13 July 2026. More than 50 registered operators were ready for the launch as the province joined Ontario as the only Canadian jurisdictions with third-party casino operators. All operators signed a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation following registration with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC).
No surprises in the initial list of approved casinos with familiar names like BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, bet365, Betway, PointsBet, and BetRivers.
Canadian license and responsible gambling on highlight
According to recent events in Ontario and across Canada, regulators are keen to create a sustainable iGaming market that also protects vulnerable players. New research also suggests that Canadian players prefer licensed casinos, secure payment systems, and transparency. The study, a survey of players across Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec aged 22 to 55, showed that nearly three-quarters (74%) would only bet on platforms with a Canadian license.
Regulators made sure centralised self-exclusion and responsible gambling tools are available at launch. Operators also had to acquiesce to a mandatory RG Check accreditation. The new regulated market comes with detailed standards and requirements for internet gambling provided by the AGLC. Responsible gambling information and tools must be readily available for players; this includes time and deposit limits and self-exclusion.
Online gambling becoming safer for players
Alberta players view online gambling as safe according to a newly commissioned study done with the Angus Reid Forum. Up to 64% of respondents think of iGaming as safe, especially after the new Alberta regulation. In fact, security and trust are top considerations before signing up. It is now upon AGLC's oversight to guarantee that all operators maintain compliance.
Industry commentator Allan Asava says:
“Alberta has opened its doors to regulated gambling, following in the footsteps of Ontario. However, unlike Ontario, Alberta is leading with self-exclusion systems and responsible gambling promotion. Operators must void and refund wagers made by players who are registered for self-exclusion. This was made a day-one requirement, possibly inspired by Ontario's introduction of centralised self-exclusion only last May.
After opening with more than 50 operators, Alberta's iGaming market is fast-growing as new platforms have since joined the leading pack. Some operators are now active across all three Canadian jurisdictions with regulated markets, which include Kahnawake, Ontario, and now Alberta, in a fast-evolving gambling scene.
