New Brunswick Looking for Grey Rock Casino Robber

Police are on high alert after a robber made off with money from a cashier when appearing to trade in a casino voucher at a landbased New Brunswick casino.

The suspect snatched the money from a tiller, who was counting out the amount relevant to the voucher, before sprinting away.

The casino has not yet revealed the amount, but police are urgently pursuing leads in the local community in an effort to trace down the criminal, who was wearing a face-covering and a cap to help mask his identity.

He's described as around six feet tall and was wearing a beige sweater and a face-covering at the time of the burglary. He fled in a white SUV.

If anyone has any information, police are urging them to call the Saint-Léonard RCMP police department at 506-473-3137. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be logged via Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.

Canada Casino Crime

This latest indiscretion comes after news broke last month of the sentencing of 45-year-old Yuan Wang, a serial casino scammer.

She has been issued a suspended sentence and is on a three-year probation after participating in a number of schemes across Ontario and Quebec.

Attempts included sending a bank draft to a casino patron and attempting a withdrawal in casino chips and cash after having an accomplice - in the guise of a bank employee - confirm the authenticity of the documentation.

The instances have led some to call for increased powers for regulatory bodies, who are charged with setting rules and guidelines and monitoring compliance with these regulations to help ensure a safe and entertaining experience for land-based and online casinos in Canada.
